Joe X Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 If this is correct: Then this is what it needed to be built (I know you are using it firing upwards): If so your box is 8.58 cubes net tuned to 31.4 Hz - 105.75 square inches of port area.
Marquisboys Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 Oh perfect thats very helpful! thank you. Now is this box to big for having about 4k going to it? i have some ppl saying it should be in around 5-6 cu ft after disp. i know this sub should have around 60-90 square inches of port area 2004 Grand MarquisAA Mayhem 18Crescendo 3500d6.5's AQ Pro AudioAQ Super TweetsImage Dynamics 6x9Soundqubed 125.4MB Quart 80.4144.2 db GONZO 2013 Chrysler 300S Granite Crystal Metallic Exterior Inferno Red Interior 5.7 HEMI AWD LMI Air Hammer Intake Corsa exhaust Custom Tune
Joe X Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 You posted some numbers earlier that make me think you build it differently and then probably your specs are different than stated. You should recheck what you built, specially since you don't believe you are tuned low. Anyways some basic modeling suggests that the sub should be able to take it (mechanically) as long as you don't play too low, besides you are choking everything against the trunk lid and that may be helping it further, it should be playing too peaky though and it seems to be the case as it seems from your sig that you still managed to put a 144.
Marquisboys Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 Yeah i built it straight from the RE box calculator. The same numbers you entered. My phone was auto correcting the numbers i was trying to post lol. Also when i made the box in RE im not sure if i flipped the H and D numbers like i was suppose to so that also could be an issue which would mess with the tuning of the box. Have you seen a grand marquis trunk, if u have some time check it out on google theres a ledge in it that may block the sound waves. I tried flipping the box in my trunk with port firing towards the rear but the box was so high it was touching the trunk lid and sounded like poo. No waves could get around the box. So im stuck on this make a smaller box and have more room and air in the trunk and have port firing up and sub up or build a smaller box and have port and sub facing rear of box and have the height just under that ledge so maybe the waves will be able to move. Well i tried flipping H and D around in RE and that wouldnt be right.. it would be tuned to 28hz and i know its not that low lol. Dont get me wrong it does wiggle things quite a bit and can feel air moving around in the car but it could be more "powerful" feeling when lows hit. I know its in a trunk, i think the issue is i need more airflow in my trunk which leads to me getting a smaller box but is having a smaller box and more airflow better than a big box and some airflow? 2004 Grand MarquisAA Mayhem 18Crescendo 3500d6.5's AQ Pro AudioAQ Super TweetsImage Dynamics 6x9Soundqubed 125.4MB Quart 80.4144.2 db GONZO 2013 Chrysler 300S Granite Crystal Metallic Exterior Inferno Red Interior 5.7 HEMI AWD LMI Air Hammer Intake Corsa exhaust Custom Tune
Joe X Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 If firing your box backwards resulted on it hitting the trunk lid, that tells me at least part of your port is seriously choked, that results in loss of low end and overall performance. Your trunk lid must be taking a serious beating also, I would definitely look into doing a different box.
Marquisboys Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 I thank you alot for your help also. hahah oh yeah that trunk lid looks like its floating off the car. I do have dampner on it but still. So im thinking a 6- 6.5 cu ft box tuned to 33hz with about 100 inches of port area. sub up and port up or sub and port firing to the rear? I mean if i did sub up port up in a smaller box it would have alot more room to breathe and the top of the box would be same height as the ledge which more sound would get into the car 2004 Grand MarquisAA Mayhem 18Crescendo 3500d6.5's AQ Pro AudioAQ Super TweetsImage Dynamics 6x9Soundqubed 125.4MB Quart 80.4144.2 db GONZO 2013 Chrysler 300S Granite Crystal Metallic Exterior Inferno Red Interior 5.7 HEMI AWD LMI Air Hammer Intake Corsa exhaust Custom Tune
