can someone help me with a box

Recommended Posts

OK so I am trying to design a box for a DC lvl4 15" I would to try and keep the net volume between 2.75 and 3.25 cubic feet. I would like to be tuned to around 33-34Hz. This is going in a 2005 Mazda 6 4Dr sedan. It is going to be a sealed off trunk build. My maximum useable space is 20" tall 40" wide and depth is something like 36" but I don't see it being any where near that deep. As for the sub, the mounting hole is 14" the outside diameter of the driver is 15.7" the mounting depth of the sub is 8". I would b like to have as wide of a port as possible. I hate it when guys have this nice box with a big 15 or 18 and then try to run a 2" wide port.(lol) Any help with this is appreciated and thank you in advance. If you need any other specs or measurements just let me know.

well, if your port is 18.5in tall, then your port only needs to be 3-4 inches or so wide. Otherwise you end up with a box that peaks like a mofo and isnt musical generally.

Maybe, not 6in wide, but maybe 5.

Here is one I just did..

19H, 36W, 16D

Port is 17.5x3.5 and 35 long

3.29 Cubic Ft, 34Hz, with 18.9 Sq In of port per cube, which is A LOT.

edit:

Port Piece 1 - 10.25"

Port Piece 2 - 10.25"

Port Piece 3 - 6.75"

Port 45s - 2.875" wide (on the long side)

Inner Box 45s - 5" wide (on the long side)

ChevyBoy95 and Joe X thank you guys for the designs. Curious, would one of these boxes perform better or are there any advantages to one over the other? Also, maybe I am stating the obvious, but would there be any benefits to filling the gaps created by the 45's with foam?

as far as the 45s with foam, no need to.

and to which one is better, it will be a role of the dice, i would personally go with Joe's due to the lesser amount of port turns, but i have had a great deal of success with the port that i did. So either or, both will work.
