JEFFYBOI
So I have a Kenwood Excelon HU that I love but has been sitting in my closet collecting dust because I believe I shorted out the ground on the RCA outputs. This is the story. I got into a car accident so I removed the subs and amp leaving my wires open in the trunk like a dumb ass. Well when I got the car back I hooked it all back up and I got a lot of engine noise through the subs like a ground loop.. checked amp, fine, changed rcas, fine, changed headunit, fixed the problem... Only thing I can think is the power wire touched the RCAs which shorted out the ground on the RCA output on the HU... Is this HU fixable? n8ball2013
What model is it? Head unit prices are stupid cheap now. It would probably be easier and get you a better unit to just buy a new one. zayres29
yeah if its not a brand new unit not worth fixing in my opinion Btw that was the first person. Ever banned by me while dropping a deuce. Feel privileged
baaudio
not recommended, but you can do the wire wrap around rca trick. wrap bare wire around all the RCA barrels and ground it to the radio chassis. has worked for me in the past on kenwoods. again, not recommended though Team NWSPL baaudio Build Log 2001 GMC Sierra walkthrough 4 Mechman Elite 370s, 10 AGM batteries, 3 Crossfire XS v2 18s, Crossfire 8k
JEFFYBOI
Its a KDC-X994. It is a older model but I just thought if I could fix it I may be able to get some use out of it. I May just sell it cheap for someone who wants a new HU but wont be running any amps. everything works perfect except all the RCA outputs give off a engine noise. SavantStrike
Do Kenwoods have a fuse on the RCA out's like Pioneers do? If so, maybe it's a fuse that's blown internally, in which case it could be replaced by someone who has a soldering iron available.
