HO ALT ON IMPORTS

Recommended Posts

I was reading the big three tutorial and a comment was made about needing a regulator? I am planning to put in a 275amp hairpin alt. I was told it was direct bolt on no modifications required. Is there something I need to know about regulators and my car. My car is a 96 Honda civic.

Alternators are internally and externally regulated. An internally regulated alt has the regulator built in and does just that, regulates charging voltage. An external regulator is usually an adjustable regulator, allowing you to customize what you charge at. Your car has an internal regulator. Most aftermarket HO alts are plug n play alts. You should have no problem.

Like Chuck said, the regulator is internal. The alt is considered "plug and play," but please don't forget to get an alternator belt about .5" shorter and to upgrade the big 3
