Rich Schenk Posted March 15, 2014 Report Share Posted March 15, 2014 I am putting a 5-6k system into my 2000 mercury mountaineer and am need of a HO alt. system is dc 5k and evently 2-3 interior amps for another 1200-1600 rms (for interior speakers) For electrical i'm am going to do big 3 1/0 OFC 2 runs of 1/0 OFC. XS D3400 front Battery and 2 xs d3100 in trunk. i need an alt that does 200 amps at idle. my question is how big of an alt do i need with this electrical? is it true that higher output alts have lower idle? thank you any info would be appreciated. This is my 3rd alt from him, and i just ordered a second HAIRPIN 6phase, to go in the blazer, WITH my 350 unit. I have a clamp, on my alt, 99 percent of my testing. At idle, 85 percent volume. (FLUKE on the dash, is clamped to the alt) Min MAX setting running. 223amps at idle. Ive seen more before. Mike, to me, has the best CS of anyone ive ever met. Ever. On a personal note, the guy, is my friend. Like, personal number friend. The man, is a good good person. Can he make something that will work for your vehicle? I wont say. Also, my large 350 case, wont FIT everywhere, its a LIL big. He cant case the internals for a prius. Feel me? End of nut hug. EDIT- 200 amps, idle, for a car, is quite a stretch. Youd want a model, that has a LOWER peak, but more grunt at normal/idle revs. The 350, is built for a all around. You, you may want a lower top end, sacrifice some top end, to gain you lower rev grunt. Trust me.
