FI Q 15 and hifonics colossus system - HELP!

Recommended Posts

I've checked the ohm reading and the subs are coming in at a steady 1.5 ohms. They are run into the amp bridged and the amp is running 1 ohm. I'm not 100% confident in my multimeter and would say that the subs are actually at 1 ohm. As far as the ground I do not have a big 3 and am somewhat skeptical of them. In any case would most agree this is a grounding issue? The more they are played the more odd the amp is being. Sometimes I won't have any issues and can pound no problem, others it will get in a mode where no matter what it won't even have an input of speakers connected and it will go right into protection mode. These are the types of things that are confusing to me, why isn't the problem continuous?

All of what every one alse just said and your electrical. From what I'm seeing your running stock alt 1 battery and 1/0 wire. No big 3 no high out put alt and you will need more batts in the back to hold that thing.

why don't you just wire them at 1 ohm each and put them on their own channel being as you have a two channel amp?

The amp is supposed to be bridged at 2 ohm and your bridging it at .5 ohm which is putting it in protect.

Correct, I've had the subwoofers run both ways, bridged and separate into two channels.

I do have two batteries. I have one in the front and one in the back charging off the fuse block that is under my back seat.

If I may, I have a trailblazer with the optional Bose system and with that system there is another amplifier. I know the remote wire is just as a sense wire but could the combo of the two amps draw to much current off the remote wire? I have noticed the head unit backlight dimming when the system is up and running.

Instead of wiring to .33, just wire it to 1.3 and call it a day :)

Save the low wiring until you get another amp to match the one you have or a better quality amp that is stable at lower impedences.

Edit: wait, its a 2 channel amp?

If you have 1 sub, and a 2 ch amplifier, you can either wire each coil up on it's own channel. OR only use one of the channels on the amp with the sub in parallel. Pretty sure those subs aren't rated for 6k so I would just use one channel wiring parallel.

I wouldn't even wire a channel per coil unless you have a proper way to gain match the channels. or w/e it's called

edit: those subs are rated for 1.5k. and nate said that is 1600w x2 so I would just wire to one channel. tuned properly of course.

or wire each coil to it's own channel and make sure they are gained matched. See if someone near you has a cc.1/dd.1
