KickerKid58 Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Just finished a lengthy install of some RF punch components in each door powered by a RF400.4. Went to give it a go and heard a nasty humming noise once i turned everything on. (even with the gains ALL the way down) Is this some sort of ground isolation problem? I have the second to best Stinger 4ch. RCA's so I don't think the problem is there. Ran all new 14ga SHCA speaker wire. Just really bummed to put 20+ hours into this and have it not work right. Anyone have a clue as to what the distortion could be? I shot a quick vid to give you an idea of how it sounds after turn on. TRON Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Just because you have good RCAs doesn't mean they wont have a factory defect. Did you try a different set just to see? Also try a different source, as in, connect an iPod to the amplifier and see what happens. Eliminate as many factors as possible. KickerKid58 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Report Posted March 27, 2014 Tron, I tried the iphone and saw a huge improvement, however if I paused it, I still got a faint hum. On another note after 30sec or so of playing off the iphone, the signal just appeared to stop, iphone still playing but no sound And the RF400.4 and sub amp are connected to my battery in back which has a + & - run to the front. BoomZoom808 Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 I find its best to start front to back. I had this issue and I fixed it. The head unit ground was the culprit in my case. Try bypassing the factory ground for the heat unit and ground the head unit direct to the frame up front sanded down to bare metal. In my Mazda there is factory grounding bolt on the passanger side kick panel. KickerKid58 Posted March 28, 2014 Author Report Posted March 28, 2014 I actually got to work a bit early and had some time to tinker and noticed that while the source was set to the cd on the hu, while muted, the humming was still present but when I paused the cd the humming reduced significantly. So it has to be something with the hu. It sounds like that^^^ may be the issue. I'll try and replace the ground tm morning before work and see if there's any difference. Does it deal with too many accessories tied to a single insufficient ground? But I just removed the ground within the adapter harness leaving only my new ground strait to the hu harness. Still no change.
