quincyj34 Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 What makes subs that take more wattage better than a sub that take lower wattage? For instance sundowns Sa series and their X series. If you take both subs and put the in boxes built to spec and gave them recommended watts, is it the higher wattage and xmax that make the X better? What if you take a smaller sub like the X-10 and compare it to a Sa-12, would the X sound the same because even though it lacks in cone area it still has more xmax? [ Im asking how they perform on music.]
alaskanzx5 Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Its not the power that changes the sound but the material used to make the speaker as a whole. The power just makes it louder. in other words you could take 10 subs of the same size and manufacturer and have them all in boxes of the same spec. They will all still sound differently due to what they are made of and how the react to the box. Power just makes it louder. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
deathcards Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 its a good question but you will get mixed answers cause wattage doesn't mean much by itself you have to take in the force the motor create with that power. what the max excursion that it can handle mechanically how accurate it will reproduce the sound. and there is still more to this skar sk2500.1 0 gauge power and ground kunukonceptz alpine HUvxi65 components on BA gt-275new build log -> http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/150642-project-d-kon-deathcards-build-log/#entry2148821 2 x-15 sundowns singer alt, odyssey bat, and maxwell ultra caps
quincyj34 Posted April 4, 2014 Author Report Posted April 4, 2014 The wattage ties into the second part of my question. I guess what im asking is if xmax and wattage make up for cone area
alaskanzx5 Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 It can, more power and more xmax means you have the potential to move more air but doesn't mean it will be louder or better. That's where box design would play in. The box design would be the deciding factor. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
