As long as you don't have a good alt to supply the power, you will always drop to 12v. I went to a alt/starter rebuild shop and asked if they do that. They didn't but referred me to a place in Chicago. Went up there, guy was great. Told me for what I am looking for, he can't make it, I told him understand about idle and you won't get the Amperage out until it's spinning so he worked with me. He let me walk out with 2 different alternators, both 120A one slightly larger, making it able to get to the 120A Faster. Told me, if the bigger one fits, come back with the smaller one and pay for the bigger one. Same price on both, a measly $120. Now of course this wasn't singe/DC/mechman type of quality, but it still holds up today, and I beat the living piss out of it.
