AASMDBASS Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I have an AQ 3500.1 and 1 18 smd... Have had them for 2 years and every once in a while if I play a song that has frequencies around 27hz, and the bass knob half up, the amp will shut off completely... The gain on the amp is right around half, and has been correctly adjusted with a DMM... My question is what would cause this to keep happening... It happened 3 times today and it's driving me insane... Electrically I have the stock battery under the hood, an XS Power D3100 secondary battery, big 3,and a DC power 270 amp alt, custom box at around 6cu ft tuned to 32hz... Please help, thanks Also, iI don't know what noise a sub makes when it bottoms out, but to me, it sounds like that happens right before the amp shuts off... SnowDrifter Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Then I'd go around the car with a wrench and verify all connections are tight. That includes any terminals on your box and the terminals+tinsels for your sub. Pull out your head unit, make sure the RCAs in there are tight as well. rockFord_Expedition Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 When you say "bass knob" are you talking about the remote gain control that came with the amp? if it is an actual bass boost, turn it and leave it down. If your gains are set properly, you almost never have room for boosting any frequencies. A DMM can't detect clipping so it is a bad tool to use to set gains with. Are you running dual inputs on the amp?
