Jacob Strahan
so, i got a DC level 4 18" here about 3 weeks ago. i have a hifonics brutus 2500.1d pushing it, i figured DC underrates there subs a good bit. but on certain notes it still gets a little stinky. Am i overpushing it to much or what? and help would be appreciated. vehicle: 1998 2door tahoe HU: kenwood single din subs: DC level 4 18" amp: hifonics 2500.1D and 1200.4 door speakers: 2 PWX 8"s and 2 random 6.5"s

Jacob Strahan
just about everything is turned down. like, 1/4 of the way because i was scared of overpowering it... so i figured it shouldn't be that vehicle: 1998 2door tahoe HU: kenwood single din subs: DC level 4 18" amp: hifonics 2500.1D and 1200.4 door speakers: 2 PWX 8"s and 2 random 6.5"s
will77530
they can be over powered if your signal is clean your box is right and you dont play below tuning, over powering is not something id reccomend to someone who is inexperienced
dangaranga
You need to set the gains with an o scope or dd-1. When I tuned my amp 1/4 gain was causing distortion, it is now set a hair below that point and all is well and no more stinky sub here. boom50cal
DD-1 or oscilloscope is the way to tune it man. Really high chance you are clipping it like that. BUT, it is most likely just excess glue burning off. Still, getting it tuned properly needs to happen soon. There's probably a few SMD members local to you, shit load of Texas guys popping up now. Jacob Strahan
aight, i'll look into that then! cause i'm gettin pretty tired of the stink. but it's gone down ALOT from when i got it. so i figured it's finally getting broken in. and the box is all to recommendations and whatnot. so i'll try and find a guy on here, what section would i post in to find someone with a dd-1 or oscilloscope? vehicle: 1998 2door tahoe HU: kenwood single din subs: DC level 4 18" amp: hifonics 2500.1D and 1200.4 door speakers: 2 PWX 8"s and 2 random 6.5"s
Jessica
could just be glue. have you installed the smell-o-tron app for your browser so we can tell you if its glue or not? Have you ever smelled someone cutting or grinding metal? thats coil smell, if it doesnt smell like that it may just be glue. will77530
if you are over powering and your box is built to the specs listed on the site then your box is too large
