DigitalDeath Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 I'm taking this bose POS out of this this and replacing it with a double din touch screen. I'd like to find one that mirrors the iPhone or iPad, but I'm not sure there really any that does that completely yet. Kenwood has a few that lets you control the phone with the head unit so I may end up with an Excelon verion. However, here is my dilemma. I was told (But can't find) that the bose system has it's own amp and low ohm speakers,. If that 's the case, I'm going for a complete build. I've already got the 12's, box and amps, but I'm completely at a loss with this bose crap. I have on star, the guys over at crutchfield said there is an adaptor for some kenwood systems that keeps the stearingwheel and on star options functions. Any commend or concerns? I was also told the stereo being removed improperly will security lock the truck and I will not be able to start it. Is this true? I've looked but can't find my specific questions. Thanks.

derek_varnes Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 If I remember correctly the ohm load of the bose speakers are 2.3 or something like that.. its best to just do away with it replace the speakers and run aftermarket amplifier.. as for as taking the radio out incorrectly and it not starting is pretty much not true, ive worked on plenty gm products with bose.. the factory radio itself will have a lock on it after you remove it.. what kind of vehicle? the factory bose amp is probably in the center console, underneath the drink holder area.. if you don't want to do a aftermarket amp you could always just bypass the bose amplifier, once you locate it you`ll be able to disconnect the wires and color match them back together bypassing the amp, then essentially you would just be running of the aftermarket head unit.. hope this helps and make some kind of since!! DigitalDeath Posted August 24, 2014 Author Report Posted August 24, 2014 Sorry for not getting back sooner! Thanks for the info. I decided to completely bypass the BOSE by way of the head unit RCA to a 4 Channel 900watt Kenwood powering 4 Focal PS165FX. The original though was to find the bose, locate the wiring to the door speakers and wire that to the AMP. The problem is, I've not found the bose amp! I've been told behind the glovebox, under the console, the right rear panel, and under the rear seats. Since it's been too F'king hot the last couple of days, and no shop to work in, my install is on hold. I've got two Soundstream D6000.1 wired and both 12" subs pounding nicely, I'm just lacking the mids an tweets as the BOSE isn't cutting it.
Ahmed Johnson Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 I used the gmos 04 in mine. Also, I never checked the door speakers but the dash speakers are 3.7(4 ohms basically). The amp is behind the rear panel on passenger in mine. I have an 08. You will need a torque bit for the seatbelt.
slowfkncar Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 The speakers are 2 ohm, your truck will start fine without the stereo. And if you want to keep the Bose/OnStar/steering wheel control www.pac-audio.com makes a single module that retains all functions including accessory output. If you bypass the amp get ready to change speakers and tap into the orange or brown wire at the ign harness for an ACC feed to the unit. Don't worry about anything going wrong unless this is your first time doing this kind of work. BTW the Bose amp is in the passenger c piller panel. Just behind the rear right door. Its silver and says bose.
DigitalDeath Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 I got the new head unit in with the on star and steering wheel controls without any problems. The amps are wired and I decided to run new wire to each door and let the bose run the dash speakers, as they sound OK.
