sbg Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 OK I put a hc2400 in my trunk few days back. All was good until today on the drive home from work. Was playing full tilt at about 70mph. Dropping to 13.8v and then the song was over and my voltage stayed at 13.8v didn't go back to 14.8v. So I get off the interstate and stop to make sure all is OK. When I come to a stop my voltage goes back up to 14v. All looks good no bad fuses or lose grounds/power wires. So I go on home. By the time I get home I can kinda hear the road in the subs. And if I just turn the key (not on) but car has power I can now hear "road" bad. Start the car up and its having a hard time to get up to 14v,when before today it would be at 14.4-14.8. I have the hc2400 with a 0ga ofc ground under the car to the frame. And the amp ground to the batt. Should I run ground for amp then a ground for the batt? Not together like I have it now. 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. alaskanzx5 Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 A common ground is good, the voltage thing can be typical for a focus. take the ground off the frame and make sure its good and clean then bolt it back down. Check all connection that they are tight still such and battery connection, amp connections, fuse connections, and speaker wires. also what head unit do you have? If its a pioneer try the pico fuse fix. If not then just make sure all the rcas are on good. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
truthsayer Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Personally, i would have a ground for both amp and batt to the chassis. truthsayer
alaskanzx5 Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Replace that screw in the frame ground with a good bolt, nut, and locking washer. More dependable. Oh and look where for where a hitch can be bolted up and try that as a ground. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

Oh and look where for where a hitch can be bolted up and try that as a ground. That is a nut and bolt and washer, just has a flat head end on the bolt. And the hitch part is so fuckibg rusted out it would never work. 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. alaskanzx5 Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Personally, i would have a ground for both amp and batt to the chassis. look at all the bug builds with batt banks. I haven't seen one yet with an issue grounding amps to the batts then batts to the frame/neg run to front. common grounds actually help prevent ground loop. one thing to remember/know doing it that way though is that if say you have 2 0 gauge wires from amp to batt you should have 2 0gauge grounds from batt to frame. Same amount of grounds as pos iis the best way to go imo. I'll have 2 o gauge pos runs so I'll have 2 0gauge grounds. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
