kingfisher23 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Hi guys, I have a Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X401M and just here recently my subs quit working. I looked at the amp and the blue light on it will stay on for about 10 seconds then flick off and then back on. Do you all have any advice on what might be causing the amp to kick on and off? I have checked all wiring and it is good

Guest Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 unplug woofers from amp. see if it still shuts off. if it doesn't shut off with no woofers hooked up, then one of the voice coils is bad.

Opened it up and noticed anything out of the ordinary I check all wires and they are good. I did check the fuses and none of them were blown. Any other suggestions?

PolishThunder Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Sounds like its going into protect mode. That usually means something is shorting out somewhere or a bad voice coil. If it doesn't go into protect (flashing/blinking light) without the subs wired something is shorting with the subs try one at a time to see which one it is. Otherwise it could be something with power/ground or damage to the amp. Did you get in any accidents or go over a large bump before this happened?

I checked wires and they looked okay. I did smell a funny almost burning like smell about a month ago and subs quit working not long after that
rockFord_Expedition Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Get a DMM, plug the black wire to your amp - and the red wire to the amp + record voltage. PolishThunder Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Hmm, something could have shorted when it started to smell like that, and now its going into protect mode. If you don't have a warranty maybe open it up and see if anything looks burnt or if any leads are loose or could be shorting. The burning sounds like it would be the subs not the amp but it could be both. Using a DMM to check stuff is a good idea too.
