Deeznutz Posted May 12, 2015 Author Report Posted May 12, 2015 We installed the 4 HX2 12's and Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bdcp amp yesterday just to see what it could do. Well since the H.O. DB Electric Alternator crapped out 2 months ago, the stock CS130D alternator Devin is running now is just not cutting it. The first few bass notes she's definitely louder, than after the needle hits 12V, the headlights dimmed badly and I was not overly impressed - nor did I want to fry to amp. So I had to pick up a new alternator. After soon research online, I read that the AD244 alternator is an optional drop-in replacement for the 4.3L Vortec motors! AD244 145 at idle, 200 >1000 rpm vs. CS130D 45 at idle, 105 >1000 rpm. This one is modified with a bigger stator making it 300 amps >1000 rpm. It should be here next week. Lets see what it can do! -Frank

I have the High Output Alternator here just haven't installed it yet because I'm not sure if I need 1" smaller belt or not, and you know kids can not be without their vehicle for long. lol. I'm still impressed with the POWER series line of RF woofers. Never having owned any sort of "subwoofer on steroids" before due to price point, I should have worked OT and started out with these back when I had my S-10 instead of the RFD1212s. I know the T1s are a newer generation, I just hope these RFR3115 are similar in output and integrity. The guy that had them in his SUV and a huge box with a huge slot port which is what probably lead to the demise of the spiders. And yes, this generation spider did have a high failure rate. -Frank

Deeznutz Posted June 29, 2015 Author Report Posted June 29, 2015 They are going back on Ebay and I am no longer going to EVER use mid level subs!!!!! To me, the subs hit ok. 2 of the subs are mint, the spiders are completely flat, the other 2, about 1-2mm depressed. I think they have did their job for the prior owner. If you look on Ebay, their prices are starting to plummet. Going for about $100 each now. Why did I hold back for so long? I can truly kick my self in the ass for not going bigger/beefier. Guess I was holding on to the past trying to keep that shit "old school". There is just no comparison to today's subs. -Frank

She looked at Lisa, snickered, rolled her eyes, said something like "They're tryin'" and cracked the window and turned up the music. The guys smiled and gave her a head nod. Lisa says Devin is proud of her truck, and absolutely loves the stereo. She says she can't tolerate her bf's stock stereo. lol. She's been converted,.....THANKS SMD! -Frank
Deeznutz Posted July 1, 2015 Author Report Posted July 1, 2015 My first attempt at a rebuild! While waiting for the parts to come in, I stared at the other sub and said "What the hell!". I slowly heated the dust cap and that loosened the CA glue! After that, unsoldered the leads, the surround, and then cut the old now weakened spider. I than cut the new spider to the first rib. This mated nicely with the old rib and CA'ed them together. I didn't know how quickly the CA set until I added CA to the spider and when I went to install the coil, after I dropped in without the shims.....CRAP!!!!! It landed on the mounting surface and instantly started to set....without the accelerant. Luckily it was centered. One shim did slide in with alittle effort but not much. Still glad I did to to know EXACTLY what to encounter when I do the other rebuild. I did not have 10,000 clamps, I instead made a wooden ring and clamped it with 8 clamps I did have. Came out pretty nice! I can also invert the sub and let the 15-18lb (?) magnet add equal weight to the rim. Anyway, here is the video. Deeznutz Posted July 3, 2015 Author Report Posted July 3, 2015 The sub is built. I dismantled the box I built, than rebuilt it again. I made a 6x10x8 port, but that was incorrect, must have looked at the wrong manual online. I called RF and spoke with "Steve". Turns out this port tuned the box to 55 Hz. I told him i had a 4.25cf total. He said that was fine, but to make a port 40 in. sq. x 17" long based on the program he was using. So I did. I didn't feel like spending $$$ at Home Depot for another prototype box. I put it in the Camaro, scratched the pass. tint (damn it), and the output was great. Still waiting on the subwoofer parts. -Frank
