kiko Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 okay so i bought a hifonics brutus 1100.1d about 5 months ago and it was installed 100% according to specs. it played great until about 2 months ago. it since have been turn off and on. here is what i have: 2 8" sundown audio e8v2 1 Hifonics Brutus 1100.1D amp 1 planet audio capacitor 4awg power and ground wire 18 awg speaker wire hooked up to Hi/lo converter rear speaker Here is what i checked: All wires(bolts tight, no pinch, no cuts, no short) check the capicitor nothing visibly wrong (turns on and readings seem correct) amp (powers on all leds and power is on, when music is played it plays for 5-10 mins and then makes a click noise and no sound and after) checked to see if the amp is getting hot (no its not, i stick my face and ear to it) check my settings its still the same as it was set 5 months ago checked all the fuses all are in tack and looks fairly new what ive notice: when it shuts off i move the power or ground wire it turns back on. (but i checked those and all the wires are soldered tight or installed very securely) so what can be wrong?

kiko Posted May 24, 2014 Author Report Posted May 24, 2014 thats what i was thinking, but im wondering why would it still play and then make a clicking noise like it is going into protection mode?

Clicking noise could be arcing. If you can, pop the case and look for burns or arcing traces on the board by the power connection. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount. TRON Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 There definitely something wrong with the power connection if it turns back on after moving the wire. When the amplifier shuts off, is it in protection mode or is it completely off? Avalanche Alpine Type S comps Alpine Type S 10'' Alpine MPR-F300 Alpine MRX-M50 Mechamn 270 XS Power d3400s

Guest Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 measure voltage at the amp power and ground terminals to see what the voltage is when this issue is happening. this will help immensely.
kiko Posted June 5, 2014 Author Report Posted June 5, 2014 Fixed!!! =DDD after examining everything and yanking every terminal to make sure there wasnt a loose one... and what ya know i had a loose terminal that connects to my capacitor. so what i did was remove the capacitor and just ran the 4 awg power wire with no terminal straight to the amp. and walllaaaahhh!!! it worked!!! and its drawing consistant power, but the only thing about it is im getting dimming from my dome light. other than that its working and bangin with 100% power!! i can deal with the dimming and save space by removing the capicitor... THANKS GUYS!!!
gckless Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 Good deal, that cap wasn't doing anything for you anyway. "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.
