Jessica Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Since my mechman s class is not a direct fit replacement fr my car, i had to make a bracket for it. The problem is, The only way to mount it is a bit closer then the stock alt and the pulley is a bit smaller. There is not much belt wrap and i have the belt as tight as i care to get it. When i start the car the belt squals for about 3 seconds then stops. I was wondering if maybe i could delay the alt coming on for a second or two to let the engine get up to speed before the alt try's to turn on it might stop doing that. Is there something available to do that? or am i going about it wrong? Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do thatI can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream. oh lawd.
truthsayer Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 So i take it , you have put on a smaller belt. Is the belt to tight now ? Have you tried simply using a bar of soap. It.s a simple old school trick people have used, but it actually works. Sometimes the belt can get that sheen on it. ( The sheen is what causes the belt to squeal, due to no griping like normal) Can be caused from being to tight, slight misalignment, or excessive heat from time and wear. edit. spelling, lol truthsayer
audiofanaticz Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 meh, if it slips now from starting your car, it will probably slip under full load due to poor belt wrap. id look into fabricating an additional idler pulley somplace close to the alt to get more wrap. shouldnt be hard to do at all if you where able to make your own bracket for the alt
SnowDrifter Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 My 2 cents I've tried various belt dressings in the past due to major belt slip. 270a alt with about 75-80 degrees of belt wrap wasn't nice. And here's my issue with them. The squeaking sound went away, but judging by the amount of dust all it did was mask the symptoms. And I've found the film left behind attracts dirt. Now imagine this: You have a belt moving at high speed with grit in it. When it slips against a soft aluminum pulley, I could see it vastly increasing the wear and teat ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Yeah, i might be able to put an idler pulley in, but wow, that would be an achievement that would be worthy of a nobel lauriet. (sp) current belt wrap is as follows. Not to be a dick, but if someone has a really good idea to fix this please chime in. I am at my wits end. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. truthsayer Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 I'm telling you, try the bar of soap idea. It wont hurt anything. Just start the car, while running hold the bar of soap against the belt, both sides and the under belly. truthsayer
