Ritch40 Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 I am currently to the understanding that to achieve the best possible spl within a given setup that you want your subs all wired in parallel. my question is this, if that is the case, does the whole system need to be in parallel all the way to the amp? Or is it just the voice coils that need to be wired in parallel?? Thank you in advance for any replies. p.s. I am trying to sort out what voice coil configuration i need and what amp or amps i need to run 4 12" subs Thanks again!!

g2shuck Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 parallel lowers the ohm load is why it might increase the db but do not wire below what the amp can handle. 2000 Toyota Camry With Sealed Off Trunk Sky High OFC Wiring DC Power 270 XP Alt AQ 2200 Sub Amp Two DC Level 4 m2 12s 80 Mil Murdetmat Gathering Parts For Wall Build. Ritch40 Posted June 22, 2014 Author Report Posted June 22, 2014 I had no plans to drop impedance at the amp lower than what manufacture says. just trying to figure out what impedance i need in my voice coils and what amp or amps i need. thank you!
Cj Kumz Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 Most common setup for two subs is to have a 1 ohm stable amp and two 4 ohm dvc subs. So in this case you can wire both in parallel to get 2 ohms each then parallel to the amp again to get 1 ohm. Or alternatively two 1 ohm dvc subs, wire them in series to get a 2 ohm load then parallel to the amp. Ritch40 Posted June 25, 2014 Author Report Posted June 25, 2014 what i want to do is run 4 subs off of 1 amp i think if i wire each sub parallel and then run a pair of subs in series this will accomplish my goal of keeping the voice coils anyway in parallel. i just dont know if running 2 subs in series will hurt my spl or not. it would seem anyway that the main thing is to keep the voice coils on each sub in parallel. if i am wrong on that by all means please let me know. thanks

Ritch40 Posted June 25, 2014 Author Report Posted June 25, 2014 that has you doing a series on each sub. that was what i was wanting to avoid.
OrionStang Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Explain why. That is the most efficient way to wire to on ohm. If your amp can handle .5 ohm, then get D1 subs and wire the same way. You are totally overthinking this. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
MrSkippyJ Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Ed Lester did a video a while back showing why putting voice coils in series lowers spl. I think that is where this is coming from.
