randyman78596
setting up a 12" infinity 1262w , already have a 1.5 cu. ft. sealed box after displacement for it..recommended size is 1.25 cu. ft. ...i also have enough wood to build a 1.05 cu. ft. box after displacement...what would you do? its gonna be running off a 300 rms amp, infinity 1300a to be exact
never knows best
honestly I dont think you'll have any issues with the 1.5cuft with that little power.... could always throw in some polyfill.... and making a preexisting box smaller is easy... making it larger is the problem-
Facekicker
Polyfill makes the box "bigger" not smaller. Your easiest solution is displace some air volume with something solid, like a few cut pieces of 2x4 or stacked & glued blocks of MDF and wood glue them down. 2002 Monte Carlo Started a build log Fi, DC, Mechman, XS Power

Ahmed Johnson
Polyfill DOES make the subs act as if it's in a bigger box so that is not good to add in your situation. Get some 2x4's or any spare wood. I've used books before without a problem so you should be good with anything solid.

never knows best
If you're using only a mild to moderate amount of filling, the enclosure volume will actually be reduced by the volume of filling used- stuffing the enclosure in higher densities affects the thermal properties. At some point (~1lb/ cu ft for polyfill) the system becomes approximately isothermal as the filling absorbs and releases heat. This results in an apparent increase in enclosure volume because pressure is related to temperature and volume.
never knows best
another option would be to lining the interior with egg-crate/pyramid acoustical foam, effectively shrinking the box while also providing the benefits (although minimal at low freq) of the foam- http://www.usafoam.com/acousticfoam/acousticfoam.html
randyman78596
i went ahead and built another enclosure that is 1.05 cubic feet after displacement so its .20 cu ft smaller than recommended..i picked up a 16 ounce bag of poly fil from walmart for damn 3.45$...do i just put it all in the box and call it a day?
