For a small box DC and alpine 5th gen are best, other than that is a matter of personal taste, power handling etc.. he would need to make his mind about that, those pio subs are worth nothing IMO so whatever is the most he can get for them that would be fine.

I think I'll shrink it down to 16d and 20d

That's give me around 5 cubes before port and sub and bracing displacements. What's an average daily tune? 34-37? I'll talk to him tho see what he wants to do.
