Putting a battery on a electronic Switch

So I am adding a backup battery for emergencies if alternator fails on the road, so I am not stranded.

the battery being used is an xs power d5100.

Is a battery isolator the way to go to seperate it from the electrical system and just flick a switch and its connected. any other options?

any installers on here with experience with these and have a isolator they prefer?

for his bass turbo button i was just thinking about paralleling 2 of them to have a 300 amp capacity continuous. i would like to use 0 gauge to connect to the battery. for minimal resistance. or at least 2 4 gauge runs to combine into a 0 gauge run at a terminal.

any idea on real current capabilites of the xs batteries specifically the d5100?

please note this will not be used for the system at all or to crank the car daily. but only used to run the car in emergency situations. so at most 50 Amps draw to run the car with headlights at night. and only 10-15 amps to run the car during the day. but on the other hand if the car needs to be started for whatever reason I would like to make sure the relays or isolator could handle a peak amperage load.

i guess then my next question would be what are average starters drawing?

thats a manual switch and also a circuit breaker which will disconnect if too much amperage is passed through., not what I am trying to do.

so i am looking for a 500 amp continuous duty solenoid. do you think that is too high of a rating for an xs d5100? i saw most starters require about 300 amps. correct me if i am wrong. when i go to search for a 500 amp continous solenoid I find a PAC battery isolator. SO pretty much battery isolators are renamed continous solenoids?

does anyone have a solenoid you reccommend that is reliable?

Pm Tony C and see if he can do something a custom and pimp .......

i already looked at his site. I am sure he has good solenoids. He has what I need, but I am looking a little cheaper than 150. if its necessary, I will spend it, but I know I should be able to find a reliable one cheaper.

the main question is does anyone have an idea of how many amps a starter pulls. Now that I think about it, I only need a continuous 100 amps to be safe and keep the car running even at night. and peaks of up to what ever the starter can draw.

edit: i found a range from 200-500 amps. does that sound right to everyone?

so maybe a 100 amps continous with a 500 amp peak will do me well
