Think I Broke Something (Ford POSI Rear End)

Recommended Posts

The gears are fine, and power doesn't kill bearings. I think they wore out prematurely due to all the 140-150mph driving in Germany.

You took your car to Germany? and any news on the car, is it fixed?

I ordered it and had it shipped over when I was stationed there.

Trying to decide what to do with the rear end. If I let Ford do it under warranty, they only change the carrier and pinion bearings and seals.

If my guy does it, ill also get the the hub bearings done plus he'll completely disassemble it and clean it to ensure there are no left over metal shavings from the bad part. He even removes the axles and swabs the tubes out with a rag and broomstick.

Its free to have Ford do it, but its kinda half-assed, and they'll probably keep the car for a week. Or I pay $600 and have it done right by my shop and get it back in two days.

I would have it done right...

I want to, but $600 vs $0. All those shavings though, are going to shorten the life of everything else in there. If even by a little bit.

Have ford do the replacement of stuff that is covered... and then take it to your buddy and have him do the rest?

Meh, the parts are cheap. Its mostly labor. Not worth the waste of time at the dealer.

Peace of mind goes a long way.

Sure does. And I definitely don't get that from the dealer.

I'll just break out the back up card and get her done right.
