JeepAndBassXJ Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I'm looking at getting a Mechman voltage boost module. My question is how well does it work and how much better will my voltage be when the alternator is under a load? I understand that it boosts voltage from lets say 14v to 14.9v just for charging but does it also keep voltage drop minimized? My voltage goes down to about 13.2 when I have the system all the way up with my 200 amp alternator, so would that number be better too or just the charging number that has no load on it? AA98hoe Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 It doesn't help voltage drop if u already have it due to lack of alternator an or batteries it will give u a higher starting voltage but once your 200 amp alt is maxed it will drop to battery resting voltage then down from there depending on current demand TEAM DC AUDIO VEHICLE:98 chevy tahoe 2wd 3-4 drop HEADUNIT:alpine 9886 PREAMP:arcaudio FRONT STAGE:4-6 1/2s selinium,DD component set and 4-selinium tweeters in each door KICKPANELS:jl audio 5 1/4 REAR DOORS: dd components 6 1/2s HIGHS AMPS:zapco 750.2 on front doors, zapco an another 750.2 on kicks and rear doors SUBS:4-ascendant audio 18s with 5 spiders in a custom box built by KINGSUV SUB AMP: 2-dc7.5s ALTERNATORS: 3-mechmans 1- 425comp, 1-smd spec350, 1-270 with adj voltage harness on custom dc bracket WIRE:10-runs 0g front to back BATTERIES:6-d1400s TL results:157.1 at 38hz and 156.8 at headrest score @37hz. ChevyBoy95 Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 It doesnt matter what your alt voltage is, could be 12v, 14v, 16, or whatever, as soon as you exceed output amperage of the alt, you go straight to reserve float voltage... I get the idea my friend, but for example, my suzuki idle at 13.9 and i have a little switch for turning out the alt´s regulator (i use a nissan versa´s 140A alt) , when i turn off that thing it charges at 15.2v , exactly the same score on the meter and exactly the same voltage drop at full tilt, it´s only good for charging the battery faster, same thing with my buddy´s Mechman with external regulator, dunno what to tell you, at least on our case, we don´t gain anything from boosting the charging voltage I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains. JeepAndBassXJ Posted August 9, 2014 Author Report Posted August 9, 2014 My voltage just sucks in warm weather, it sits around 14 volts and will drop to 13.2 when playing the system, but it never gets under 13.2 at full tilt, I play it usually 30 min at a time that way.
