GassenD Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I got around to moving my ground on my 2nd battery in the rear and finally found a good place to ground it straight to frame. After I finally got it on there I turned my vehicle on and my voltmeter was reading 13v at idle and no higher at 2k RPM. I started freaking and thought my alternator just shot craps at first but after I put my old ground back on my voltage went back to normal. My volt meter goes right to my 2nd battery in the back, I have the big 3 done, and on my front battery I did a ground to my engine block, and grounded to the front piece of metal right under my hood. There's where a (factory) ground was, but now that I think about it could that have just been purely for my headlights? And I just don't have a good front ground to frame? I ran out of ring terminals (going to pick up more in the morning) so I couldn't put a ground straight from front battery to frame, Could that be my problem? slamingsuburban Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 yes run a ground front batt to frame and alt to front batt also whens the last time you charged the batts could be that the batt was really low
OrionStang Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Where was the rear battery grounded before? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
GassenD Posted August 8, 2014 Author Report Posted August 8, 2014 Rear batt was grounded to the thin metal behind my back seat flat. But after I noticed my voltage was really low I took off the new ground and put on my old ground and voltage went back to normal.. slamingsuburban Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 whats the bat reading with the car off
OrionStang Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Should leave it on the old spot then. Did you grind the new frame ground down to bare metal, clean it up real good? SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread

GassenD Posted August 9, 2014 Author Report Posted August 9, 2014 Well I didn't get around to picking up terminals today in time before the comp. But I did notice that with that ground on the frame plus my old ground I have less voltage drop, plus My amp and subs are WAY cooler.. Before hand after about 20 minutes of play time they'd get pretty warm, and today at comp for how much I played today they should have been hot, but were still cool and pounding away.. Did get a .8db gain out of it though. Did a 145.8db on music so I'm happy. '97 Explorer2 Sundown SA 15's SQ 2200D Kinetik KHC1800 (Front) Kinetik KHC 2000 (Back) KnuKonceptz 1/0 OFC 130A Alt + Big 3
