Amp on/off switch

I just installed a switch in the remote wire to my sub's amp too. I wanted it mainly for 2 reasons: 1 so I can leave the head unit on but completely turn off the amp/subs (while pulling up to my house at night or having a conversation in the car etc) and 2 so that I can instantly kill the subs if I see the 1 time po po penelope force. I put the switch right in the middle of my center console so my passenger can easily turn it off if they see the penelope's before I do. I got this 12v switch at Radio Shack for a few bucks.

I also placed the switch so that 'on' is back, and 'off' is forward. This way if my arm is resting on the center console, it's just one swift movement forward and it's off, takes about 1/4 of a second.

If I were you I would probably put the remote wire to the 12v accessory of the head unit and not to the cigarette lighter. If you do use the cigarette lighter, make sure you test beforehand to make sure it's off when the car is turned off. I believe some cigarette lighters will work when the car is off, in which case you would have to turn your switch off every time you turned your car off, and if you forgot, your amp would stay on and drain your battery. Wiring it to the cigarette lighter may also require a different type of switch than wiring it to the 12v accessory of your head unit, check specs to make sure you get the right switch for the wire you use.

I'm assuming the post on each end would go to the amp and the fuse, is the other post just a ground?

yup. it's illuminated so you have to ground it. if it's not illuminated there would only be 2 terminals.

I have a switch on the remote wires going to my sub amp, mids and highs amp, VM-1, and I have a PAC LC-1. Like to have all the bases covered

Way back the day when we where stupid kids these switches where used for "Cop Mode" You see the police and you hit the switch.
