dedicated starting battery

Recommended Posts

I can start my car just fine with temps well below zero when I only had 1 single d3100 in the car as a starting battery and no other batteries in my magnum that is the stock group sized batt needed for the car. Now I have 3.. and guess what... having 3 ill have even less trouble starting my vehicle in winter. When I had one and because of how cold it was (-21F) battery was at 12.1v. Started my magnum rt just fine. This summer that same battery on charged up on xs charger then taken off and sit for 24+ hours it would rest @ 12.79v. Get the same type battery as the rest that will fit in where your putting it. Your making this too difficult. Honestly of your not fully charging your batts when driving back home or when its sitting and are sitting at 70% well thats your problem.. take care and maintain them. Not hard.

i have many short trips between jobs sites, my alternator charges at 14.6-15V while driving but i still arrive at less than 100% charge rates most of the time due to the large amounts of power required to start. i want to have a battery that can start my truck with out issue and does not have other current draws. 3 batteries is easily with in the specs of my alternator but i want a single battery in back for my starting. the ONLY single battery i can think of that is able to start my engine is a D8 or larger. thus thats why i want to buy a single battery and an isolator as thats going to be cheaper than 2 more group 49 AGM's.

nothing, gutted

If you are starting your truck so often that a battery bank gets drained while being charged by the alt then a single battery will be damn near impossible to keep charged.

How is that battery going to get charged? You didn exactly say.. by alt? If not you are using a single battery to start and will drop that voltage pretty good especially in winter so your going to have to charge it back up when you get home?
