Jhunt94
Alright so I've finally gotten fed up with it enough to ask. I have a 250a Mechman alternator and an xs d3400 battery for the electrical in my truck. For my amps I have a RF T1500-1bdcp and a T400-4. The first thing is that I feel like my charging voltage is not that strong throughout the day. When I start my truck in the morning (depending on the temperature) I'll have about 14.0-14.3 volts, and as the day goes on depending on how much I start my truck it might get down to 13.1-13.4. Now I don't know if that's normal or not, but I was just going to state that to begin with. The second thing is that I can be playing music and get massive voltage drop. On some bass hits I've seen it go down to low 12's or high 11's. I feel like that with the alternator and battery I have I shouldn't be getting that much voltage drop. So I'm just wondering what you guys think, and if you have any more questions about the setup just ask. 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Cab. TRON
You have a smart charging system in you truck no doubt. It's supposed to drop the voltage when the battery doesn't need charging in order to decrease the amount of work the engine has to do to spin the alternator. Same thing happens on my truck, start up at 14.8v and it drops down as low as 12.8v when the batteries are topped off with the charger. The computer is supposed to sense the increased electrical demand to bump the voltage back up, but I found that it didn't work too well. External regulator is your best option to fix that. I have a MLA module, works wonders. TRON
That could also be the system have a delay in increasing the alternators output, but it shouldn't stay down in the 12s. Are the amplifiers grounded to the frame? sbg
Still don't think he should drop to high 11s with his electrical. I mean I run stock alt(110 amp) and a hc2400 with a 4k amp. TRON
No he definitely shouldn't be in the 11s, so I'm guessing there's some bad grounding somewhere. Jhunt94
It doesn't stay down it'll only happen for a second, but I don't think it should be happening, I can check the grounds and see if that's it. And no the amps aren't grounded to the frame, I've just never gotten around to doing it. 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Cab. SLYentist
i smell a grounding issue. increased resistance=decreased voltage=increased current for the same demand. ground your amps as best you can and see if the issue is fixed. Cables and wires almost never fail; the terminations do.
