Metered the truck for the first time last weekend

Recommended Posts

So I met up with Pioneerforlife on friday and decided to throw his spl labs meter in the truck to see what it could do. Sealed on the dash the best it could muster up was about a 142.1 @42hz but I've known it wouldn't do well on the meter as it falls on its face sealed up, we didn't really spend a whole lot of time trying to squeeze all its got sealed up since that's not how i play and demo it.

So we ended up rolling the drivers window down and playing around with different songs and found it peaked at 143 and 41 hz, and the next lowest peak was a 142.7 at 27 hz which I was kinda surprised at the decent bandwidth on the meter.

Everything was done on music and not burps, also we didn't really go through and find the cabins peak resonance.

Also for ease of reading, the system consists of:

2 C2 audio Team 1k 12's

3.8ish cu ft net box tuned to 31 hz with about 12.5 in/cu ft of port

Juicebox G31 and a bank of maxwell ultracaps

American Bass vfl 120.1 @.25 ohm at the time of metering

Now I'm not into chasing numbers or competing, but, any tips to gain a little on the meter? I'm hoping to remeter this weekend if he is available.

Figured I'd update this, even though there's no love for the little guy but w/e lol

Remetered last weekend when pioneerforlife came by with his meter.

With drivers window down like last time, got a 144.4 db out of it.

Then metered it outlaw style and got a 146.4 db @40 hz and 146.0 @30 hz. eventually i will build a new box tuned higher, as the truck wants to peak in the mid-40hz range and the box now is tuned to 30hz and I am fighting myself both with the score and leaving a little on the table on the higher notes.

I know damn well the sealed score :cray: my truck doesn't meter for shit lol hence the wanting to rebuild, try to get that sealed score up. I am not 100% in it for the numbers, more for the demoing which is why the window down metering but oh well. I knew from the get go sealed up is gonna suck in that truck.

I am really debating a 4th order blowthrough next summer with 4 12s, I like having a wide bandwidth. I don't like being stuck to a small range of freq. But my box skills leave some to be desired, but I am learning through trial and error and hope to get better with each build.

This box now, has the port facing towards the drivers side and subs forward, and there are no 45's or round over's anywhere. I threw it together in like 5-6 hours total lol

Next one I will take my time and build it right. I am thinking subs and port up towards the roof

The box is currently rotated 90 degrees to the right from the orientation in this pic.

might give subs firing up and ported towards the passenger side a try.. works relatively well for a 2 12's setup in trucks

This isn't teeball. YOU DO NOT GET A TROPHY JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOW UP. Put the work in and then maybe get the respect when it has been earned

151.6 with single 12 at 41 hz

153.2 with 2 12's at 43 hz

Yea, I'm gonna just keep trying different things. You never know unless you try right? Can't learn unless you make mistakes is my philosophy, good old trial and error.

I think I may go back to the box orientation of the first pic and remeter before building new, it sounded better that way, plus now I am running a lot more power than I was originally.

Ya try the subs up and port towards passenger side. I have seen trucks with 2 12's pull 53's with it that way. Then next summer do the 4th lol.
