Go-N-Def Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 Is there a huge difference in sound between a 5 1/4 and 6, 6 1/2 set. I'm installing in a ford and trying to go with the easiest install with best sq. Yo dog i heard you like boxes. so i put a box inside a box so you can bass while you FAIL
philrab Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 6 1/2's more cone area, sometimes (not always) lower frequency response. If you can wedge a 6 1/2 in there, I would. If it involves major surgery, I've run 5 1/4's in front and 6 1/2 in the back of a previous vehicle and the sound wasn't a huge difference in midrange and high, though the 6 1/2 did beat the 5 1/4's hands down for mid bass. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount. Go-N-Def Posted October 15, 2014 Author Report Posted October 15, 2014 I'm trying to go without surgery that is the only reason I wouldn't do 6 1/2's. I want matching sets front and rear Id like even sound. Yo dog i heard you like boxes. so i put a box inside a box so you can bass while you FAIL
Rich Schenk Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 6.5 s have better midbass but sound pretty close all depends on how good of components you buy. Go-N-Def Posted October 15, 2014 Author Report Posted October 15, 2014 Suggestions. Would be spending $150 per set. I like smooth tweeters hoping they will play loud. Yo dog i heard you like boxes. so i put a box inside a box so you can bass while you FAIL
Skullz Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 Everything about the 6.5's are better than the 5.5's, so i would get some mdf rings to mount the speakers to and just use some tin snips to trim the speaker hole to match the inner diameter of the mdf ring. When you mount the MDF ring to the door use some sound deadener between the door and ring to prevent any transmission of sound to the metal causing a vibration noise. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
