Usually half an inch shorter but it all depends from car to car. I usually buy a couple and start with original if that don't work try till I get one that fits and return which ever ones don't work. Buy gates belts they our the best belts.

When I got my Singer alternator, he advised to go 1/2 inch shorter due to the smaller pulley. Mechman didn't have any instructions like that?

Mechman told me 1/2 - 1 inch shorter. I think mine is like 3/4 shorter.

Installing it today gunna try the stock one first and see how it feels and then the shorter one if need be...

My belt I bought is a gatorback.

I think I got one about 3/4 inch shorter when I got my singer alt. It will depend on vehicle for sure. I actually wrapped something around my pulleys and measured it to get a rough guess of what I needed. I dont remember what i used but i made sure it didnt stretch.

Never understood the shorter belts for overdrive pulley as i had more than enough play left in my tensioner to take up the extra slack. Guess everyone is different...
