Where to face subs....Ports and subs on the same plain?

how long was your port?, just curious your case is similar to one im trying to figure out on my own

On which diameter?

Head Unit - Clarion VX709 7" DVD Touchscreen

Mid/Highs - Front Doors - RF Prime 6.5" component mids.

A. Pillars - RF Punch component tweets.
B. Pillars - RF Prime component tweets.
Rear Doors - RF Punch 5.25" mids.
RF Punch 3-way passive X-overs.
Mid/Highs Amp - MB Quart Onyx 360.4, 4 channel, 640W RMS.
Subs - (2) PowerBass 3XL 15, 1000w RMS, 3" flat wound coil, 562oz motor, 10" spider.
Sub Amp - Audiopipe GD6001 @.5ohm, clamped 2825RMS.
Box - 9.6 cu^3 net @35Hz, three 6" aero's.
Charging - Energizer 120Ah AGM under the hood, MaxLife 75Ah in the rear. Big 3, 140A aftermarket alt. (off brand)

and what do you mean by lacking lows? like under 30 hertz lows or like 20-25 hertz lows?

Can't remember on length exactly, would have to dig through some of my notes lol. I know all lengths were keeping 31.5Hz in both boxes. Lacking lows as in anything under 35Hz, really steep roll off from there. My rear hatch could have a lot to do with that but not sure. The higher frequencies, around 40Hz especially, peak very loud.

Small port area from what I've read and been told can create a bad freq response.

You should post the specs of the boxes so people can understand more and give better tips.

First box was 34"W X 13"H X 22"D, sub up, port/ports back. I started with two, 4" ports, 13.2" each @31.5Hz. Sounded good and actually did a little better on low frequencies but the output wasn't there. I took some bad advice, took out the 4" aeros and put one, 8" aero in the same box, 26" in length. This sounded by far the worst, lost all higher end frequencies and it sounded like air blowing at lower frequencies (28-35). I then picked the box up that I have now, 32"W X 16"H X 18"D, which is just a little smaller than the old one (old was 4.4 gross, this is 4.22). Running one, 6" aero, 14.6" long @31.5Hz. Actually went with net volume when tuning this box, went with gross volume before. It sounds GREAT on frequencies above around 36Hz, but has a VERY steep roll off below that. The current box is also sub up, port back. Have been told it's the vehicles resonant frequency making me peak that high....

From my understanding those do peak high.

How much room did you have on both sides of the port? That affects tuning freq.

How close was the sub to the port?

Double baffle, bracing, no air leaks?

Any deadener?

Us the subsonic on?

Is it adjustable, what's it set at?

Oh and you always use net volume for everything. Using gross you could be tuned a lot higher then you think.

sub back port back worked best in my oldsmobile bravada i had, with box directly behind rear seats, tbh i never cared for bass under 30 hertz much can hardly hear it neways

Oh and you always use net volume for everything. Using gross you could be tuned a lot higher then you think.

Port has always been at least 6" from the back of the box and around 6" from the rear hatch. The first box was VERY thick, 1" MDF and 3/4" plywood, so it didn't need any sort of bracing. This box has 45's all the way around and is coated inside with a thick coat of resin and the sub is a good distance from the port. Rear hatch is deadened but that is about it, subsonic is set at like 24Hz. I had it at around 29, but lowered it trying for some lows.... Was thinking of inverting the sub and seeing what that does. The new box I am building will be slightly larger per sub than the previous two, also tuned slightly lower. I am thinking the vehicle just has a very high peak and is something I will have to live with.... :/
