i have zr1000 that im fixing for a friend that would make a nasty sound out the subs and then shut off. will i tested it out on my work bench and when i turned it on i noticed that the voltage would drop really fast with no rca's or speakers hooked up to it. so i unpluged the crossover card and it kept its voltage at 12v. then when i disconnected all the power from the amp it still read 12v but when i bridged the power and turn on together it caused the voltage stored in the amp to discharge. any help would be appreciated.

You'll probably have better luck on diyaudio.com or one of the Facebook groups for repairing amps. Unless you are a tech and know how to diagnose, even something that may sound simple may involve much more work. The ZR1000 is a beast old school Class AB amp and worth getting fixed IMO
