Sub And Port Orientation In A 99 Explorer

which way do you think will allow the best response...

i have tried sub back and port up, and subs and port back/up at about a 45 degree angle...these 2 setups sounded about the same.

the customer wants his box to be stealthy so im also thinking of possibly downfiring the subs im just worried that downfiring the sub might hinder the transfer function of the back glass

the sub is an 8" W7, space is obviously not an issue...the customer is taking the sub out of a dakota that i built a downfire ported box for and i want it to sound just as good if not better in his new car...

any help is appreciated.

ok...ill probably do that, but ill do sub in the middle with a dual port setup for symmetry.

well i had a certain design in mind, and this customer is very particular, so i want the best of both worlds...i have done dual ports in an explorer before with the sub in the middle and it turned out well...this guy is definitely not just getting a carpeted box just sitting back there.

unless you think have the sub on the drivers side port on pass. side will make that much difference as opposed to the sub in the middle port on either side i can always come up with a different design.

my goal with this system is to get as much output as i can from the setup, maintain good sounding bass and having a nice clean integrated factory look.

This is what I'm going with in my 99 Explorer Sport. 7 cubes/110 square inches of port tuned to 36Hz for an 18 RE MT.

there is nothing wrong with doing it the way you said but by seperating the sub and port on opposite ends of the box it will be louder and sound better.
