Guest
I am going to be pushing about 2500wrms in my setup. I calculated 2500w/14v to get about 179 amps. I am planning on upgrading my factory alt to a mechman 240amp one. Do you think this would be sufficient? Or would it be worth it to upgrade the front battery to a deep cycle like an XS Power batt too?
SIDE SHOW
yes definatly upgrade your front battery & alt, from there if you still have lights dimming and bad volt drop, look into a second battery near your amp in the boot
Miguels
240a is sufficient but in reality its not 179a to run a 2.5k amp. its around the 300 to 320a.. amps are not 100% efficient. my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. If I drawing less than 200amps with a 240amp alt wouldnt that be fine?
Miguels
thats why i said 240 was sufficient. its not like his wanging it 24/7.. but also the bigger the alt the less batteries he needs my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/

Guest
If I add up the fuses on my two amps it sums to 260amps. And I am definitely not planning on burping at all let alone constantly. I just do not want to drop 300+ bucks on a XS batt if I do not need it or if I could get a cheaper batt maybe like Optima or Duralast or something instead. Broke_Audio_Addict
You're still going to need a good batt under the hood and if it was me one in the back. SIDE SHOW
always match the batterys..... you could get away without it..... i'm a keen believer in overkill for all my electrical. cant hurt having the extra batt in there
