Would 250 amp fuses be safer than 300s?

Whos Kylar?

Anywho.. You fuse for the wire, not amps. What kind of wire, and how long are the runs?

Guy with the walled SP4s and Ampere amps......I only know him on here by his username.

I posted a similar topic awhile back and he helped me out with a completely different setup......

The issue with fusing for the wire is that if you fuse for more amps than you're actually drawing, you might as well not fuse.....at least this has been my understanding.

*That's why I was hoping he'd chime in....he can explain it much better than I can....

As long as you don't fuse for more than the wire is rated for it is just as "safe". If the wire is rated for 350 amps at 20 feet, then fusing it at 300 or 250 really doesn't matter. You are not getting close to the rated value in either instance.

Do whatever you want to do though. If you are pulling less than 250 amps through your runs then just fuse for 250.

By the way, no one is pulling as many amps as they are fused for. It is one of those things that is used as a precaution if something goes wrong. If you are only pullin 200 amps through a cable rated for 350 then you are fine running non fused, but the moment a catastrophic failure occurs and you get a direct short, you might as well kiss your car goodbye with no fusing.

That makes sense too.....I guess considering that if anything does go wrong, the spike in current is going to be much higher than a 250/300 amp fuse......

I already have the 300s so I'll just stick with those.

Thanks guys!

*I'll change the heading so I'm not calling him out! haha
