mbdblue Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 the only risk for degrading over time would be the fact that the battery up front is a year old and may not be holding as high of a charge as the one going in....Other than that, I see no issue. noobslayer77 Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 ok gotchya. so it would be similar to the see saw effect of having an agm and a non agm wired in parallel, the lower voltge of the non agm would draw from the agm, and the two batts would constantly be seeking equilibrium. My 3400 up front likes to sit at 12.9 or 12.8, and my xp3000 in the back is newer and likes to sit around 13.1 to 13.0. nothing i can really do about it i guess and i'm not really looking to buy another ~300 dollar battery. I'm only running 1200 watts, and possibly going to 2400 soon. So i figure i'm probably in the clear for the foreseeable future. if and when i do decide to get a dc 5k i will probably have to address this, but if i buy that amp i'm also getting a big boy alt, so new stuff all around... cross that bridge when it comes. thanks for the help! 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited 2 13w7s skar 3500 cnf mids (soon) xs batteries
SLYentist Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 always connect in parallel, unless you want 24V or more. Cables and wires almost never fail; the terminations do.
d-nice88 Posted January 3, 2015 Author Report Posted January 3, 2015 Ok so im going to go ahead and just do the 1200 for now as planned but if I get a lil cash for my cap then ill get the d3400 but wont I run into the same issue with one being newer then the other ?
noobslayer77 Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 I would say you'll be fine as long as the resting voltages are close. But then again i don't really know shit. I have mine that way and haven't blown anything up yet so speaking from personal experience, my shit is still working, and i saw a big difference when i added the second. Just charge em up every so often. 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited 2 13w7s skar 3500 cnf mids (soon) xs batteries
