kmb504 Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 Has anyone built an enclosure for a vfl8? I read that at .7ft3 tuned to 34hertz these subs sound amazing. I just cant seem to pencil whip theses numbers to make that work. Can someone help? Or give their opinion for box size, tuning and demensions. Ive got one 8. My max demensions are 30w x 12d x 17h

To get enough port area the ports almost always end up being a mile long. If you post what you came up with so far we can probably point you in the right direction. If I do 10d x 20w x 14h thats gives me 1.14 ft3 gross volume and if I do my port 22l x .60w x 12.5h its gives me a tuning of 34.24 hertz and gives me .71ft3 net volume. The sub displacement is .073ft3. Isnt .60" a little skinny for a port?

Generally you want your port aspect ratio to be under 5:1 and the closer to 1:1 you can get it, the better. At .6" wide and 12.5" tall that's about 20:1. You probably don't have enough port area either. How much power are you going to run? ChevyBoy95 Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I have done boxes for single 8's that were low tuned (30-35hz), never really turned out well due to what Triticum said. Port was super long, had to wrap around, and even when i had the tuning, port area, and perfect volume it just didnt perform.
