jaspenn Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 I understand this is one of the top car audio forums around, so I'm hoping I can find some information here. I would like to discuss with someone (individual, company, forum, etc) the possibility of upgrading the radio system in my 2006 Cadillac CTS, base model. I have talked with numerous local shops and online suppliers, and I am continually getting conflicting information. The basic issue I am trying to resolve is whether I can retain the car's Information Center if I install a new satellite radio and navigation system. As I said, I'm getting conflicting opinions and really need someone who is familiar with my car/system and audio products. Thank you in advance for providing me with direction or information.
audiofanaticz Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Yes you can retain the information screen, as well as the heater controls in the bottom below the radio. You are going to need this wiring harness for $119 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_541OS2CCTS/PAC-OS2C-CTS-Wiring-Interface.html?tp=3486 Your going to need this dash kit for $29 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120992006G/Metra-99-2006-Dash-Kit-Gray.html?tp=3121 or if you have a black dash this kit for $26 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120992006/Metra-99-2006-Dash-Kit-Black.html?tp=3121 And if you want your steering wheel conrols to still work with the new radio (if the radio has the option for steering wheel controls) your looking at another module that costs $70-90 depending on which one you get, which depends on which radio you go with usually.
rockFord_Expedition Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Well damn Brian, make it easy on em why don't you? Good stuff bro. OP, what he said ^^^ Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire
jaspenn Posted February 26, 2015 Author Report Posted February 26, 2015 Thank you for the leads. I really appreciate the response. Strange, Crutchfield was one of the first vendors I called. As I recall, the person I spoke with seemed to think I would not be able to preserve the Information Center and in fact was not very helpful. So, I'm glad to see that there are solutions possible. I will check all this out and see if I can get my project underway. Thanks again, and obviously, I came to the right place.
jaspenn Posted February 26, 2015 Author Report Posted February 26, 2015 Hello Audiofanaticz, Just had an online chat with a Crutchfield rep who of course said these products will do the trick. But he was pretty adamant that I will not be able to retain the "information center" from the car into a new system. No matter what, as he put it. I would appreciate hearing your opinion about that. Thanks again for being so helpful.

Thanks again for being so helpful. If the rep told you they would do the trick, why would he say it wouldn't work in the next sentence? Uh?? Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do thatI can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream. oh lawd.
jaspenn Posted February 26, 2015 Author Report Posted February 26, 2015 Basically the rep was saying the product would work for the installation of an after market system, including the steering wheel controls. But he said it would not retain the info center. Obviously, I don't know enough about electronics to understand why the info center can't be retained.
mothra Posted February 26, 2015 Report Posted February 26, 2015 he is correct in saying you will not retain the factory information center. the harness indicated is only for retaining chimes, Onstar, etc.... none of these are for retaining the OEM information display. all of these features are basic features to retain with GM vehicles. you'll need to find something like Maestro RR but it currently shows that it is not available for his vehicle. even with Maestro RR he still needs a double din video from Kenwood or Pioneer that it would work with. if nothing changes, nothing changes You don't know what you don't know, till you don't know
jaspenn Posted February 26, 2015 Author Report Posted February 26, 2015 Ok, I just talked with a Maestro RR rep who confirmed they do not have the Info Ctr interface for the 06 CTS. So, either I upgrade to a new system and do without the info center, or stay with what I have. This thought occurred to me--could I install a radio/nav system from a newer Caddy and retain the info center? Or is there a possibility of installing just a nav unit alone and keep the existing radio with the info center? Or will a nav unit disrupt the info center? Thanks again!
audiofanaticz Posted February 26, 2015 Report Posted February 26, 2015 many out there doing it, and having it still work http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-first-generation-forum-2003/159972-pioneer-avic-f700bt-nav-2006-cts-6.html#post1777530
