MrSllez Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 So currently I am running DD 2515 wired to 1 ohm on DD M1b. Its in my room and signal is coming from py pc to yamaha reciever and from there onto amp. For power I am using 1200w server power supply (12V and 100A, measured 12.3V and never dropy below 12.2V). Woofer is in 100l box tuned to around 33hz. Now the problem is whenever i play it at more than 400-500w i can feel dustcap getting warm, and if i play above 700w i can barely start smelling coil is getting hot at port. What could be the problem? Amp doenst have any problems and i am not clipping signal. I have asked this on other forums but noone had an idea so i wanted to check here.
n8ball2013 Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 How do you know how much power you're putting to it and how do you know you're not clipping it THERE IS NO BUILD LOG! 1998 Chevy Silverado ext cab Alpine CDA-9887 4 Team Fi 15s 2 Ampere Audio TFE 8.0 2 Ampere Audio 150.4 3 Digital Designs CS6.5 component sets Dual Mechman 370XP Elite alternators inbound! 8 XS Power d3400 6 XS power d680 Second Skin Stinger Tsunami Wiring Sky High A Real Voltmeter not a piece of shit stinger.
MrSllez Posted March 20, 2015 Author Report Posted March 20, 2015 I have analog voltmter and it measures correctly no matter frequency. And i just square volts becausxe woofer is wired as 1 ohm load. Also there is no weird noise and there is clip LED on amp and remote.
Joe X Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Engage your subsonic/infrasonic filter to 28Hz or so.
MrSllez Posted March 20, 2015 Author Report Posted March 20, 2015 Subsonic filter is on 30hz and LPF on 150hz
Joe X Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I mostly trust a scope when it comes to clpping but anyways you should make sure that both coils are connected and see if one of them went out already, lastly I'd try a car battery instead just for a test.
MrSllez Posted March 21, 2015 Author Report Posted March 21, 2015 Here are 3 pictures of the setup https://imgur.com/a/4EBIO . Could it be the power cable that is distorting the signal? Under the yellow tape there are electrial terminals connecting yellow wire and 2 blue wires. Each coul has 2.1 ohm resistance and when checked on amp output resistance is exacly 1 ohm. I just tried again getting it on about 800w for couple seconds and i measured voltage on amp input. It was exacly 12.3V and didnt drop below that. I dont have a scope and i dont know where i could borrow one. Ill try to use car battery and try it woth that still.
MrSllez Posted March 21, 2015 Author Report Posted March 21, 2015 Also is it normal for woofer to move very little/almost nothing at tuning frequency? Like whenever mine plays at 33hz it moves almost nothing.
