NYGS300 Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Hey all, Been reading alot on builds and trying to learn as much as I can! I have a stock electrical wise 2000 GS300 and I have many audio stores around my area. I have been getting ALOT of info from them, but some people are telling me entirely different things than others. I have some electrical questions I would like some answers to if possible ( pretty sure its possible). This is what I have purchased so far, but have not installed yet, need some clarification for the amp.. Two DC Audio Level 5 12's. DVC 2 Ohms Each. KnuKonceptz 1/0 Amp Install Kit. 2 XS3400D Batteries. XS Power Big 3 Upgrade. 240 HO Amp from Mechman ( Still being "fulfilled" from Sonix since the 4th of March). Clarion EQ Volt Gauge I had bought a Taramp 5K from Amazon and returned it when I realized I was getting it for way cheaper at my local stores. Questions I have are.. 1) I have a duralast gold battery up front, I believe its 950CC, not to sure, but can I run that with the two XS 3400's at the back? Someone from the local stores told me that would kill the alternator. If not, would be fine to run one xs3400 at the front and one at the back? I would hate to not be able to use the duralast as its fairly new ( 2 months old). 2) I was told that a Taramp 8000D ( I can get 2ohms or 1 ohm ) would not get the proper power from the alternator (plus extra batteries) to push the subs. I was told to get two Taramp 3000D's instead. The question is what should I get? 1 Taramp 8000D or two Taramp 3000D's? Any info given is much appreciated! Thanks guys!
magillaru Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 If you get one amp, you will have the options of wiring at 2 or .5 ohm.....if you get the two amps, you can wire each sub to 1 ohm. ......I'm not even sure you would want to put a 1 ohm load to that amp let alone .5 so I would consider that. You're running some nice subs there man.....may want to do a little more research on the power you're gonna feed em. Oh and as long as that duralast up front is an agm, you'll be fine. rockFord_Expedition Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Do you have any other aftermarket electrical installed in your vehicle? WHat is the factory alt rated at? Until I know the answers to the above all I can say is that I wouldn't wire below 1 ohm in your case and you may not even have enough electrical for 5k. Depends on the OEM alt rating, well not directly but that will tell us approximately how much juice your vehicle needs. Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire
NYGS300 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Report Posted March 20, 2015 Thanks for the replies guy. All the wiring in the car is stock right now, but I will buy at least 20 feet of 1/0 guage to wire everything. I do have 1/0 guage for the big 3 and also the amp kit. The stock alt is 100 amps, but when the mechman comes in, I will switch that out. I believe the duralast is wet cell, but I will check to confirm. Snowing right now in NY. What suggestions would you give for an amp to push those bad boys? I have 800 to spare on an amp. Thanks!

I won't suggest an amp but i will help you estimate closely how much power you can run, and steer you in the right direction. So your stock alt is 100 amp that means you need approx 60-80 amps for your vehicle and it's accessories, that won't change with the mechman. That leaves you with 160 - 180 A to spare for aftermarket electrical, which is barely enough to run an efficient D class 5kw amp on music. Also, keep in mind that this is the alternators max output, it will be lower at idle, much lower if not a hairpin. If I were you, I wouldn't run any more than 5k total amplifier power, don't wire below 1 ohm regardless of the amp you get, do your big 3 right including grounding the alt case to the frame or strut tower. Make all of your terminations solid etc. Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire

NYGS300 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Report Posted March 20, 2015 Rockford, how do you suggest me get more power? More batteries? Bigger alt?
rockFord_Expedition Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Rockford, how do you suggest me get more power? More batteries? Bigger alt? Alternator. Always go with as much alternator as you can afford because if it's too much alt all that means is great voltage and it leaves you room to expand later and almost everyone does.
