cgrez33
Well instead of completely dividing you couldn't just used the center as a bracing, and only had one aero port (could've saved money for a double baffle). Also gain matching is simple with a o-scope. (Not sure if you have one) I'm sure this will work though just different from what I'm use to lol. Will you be at the TDH show? SolerTuned
We do not have an o-scope at the moment. The ports were something we wanted to buy because they can be used multiple times in different boxes for the future, while this box will be a one time build. We are definitely looking into buying new equipment (o-scope, term-lab, etc.), but it all depends on funding next year. We were created after the deadline for organization funding so this years project came completely from the member's pockets (which is saying a lot from poor college students haha). We will be at the TDH show both Saturday and Sunday! SolerTuned
The installation is complete! We definitely need to look into sound deadening in the future because this car rattles to pieces. SolerTuned
Finished up the prep work today. Installed a new alternator to hopefully help with some of the voltage issues. Here are some of the pictures of the system (sorry for the poor quality, took them late in the day and the lighting is rough.)Headed to TDH tomorrow, see you guys there! SolerTuned
Teammates: Sam and Chirs. Had a fantastic time at Team Deadly Hertz show! We scored some fantastic numbers and look forward to the next one. The total build price came out to around $150 (plus my donated equipment), so it was very much a budget build. We were able to score 149 dB (2nd run of 148.9 dB pictured in the middle) with our 2 15"s on 2200-2400 watts (compensating for voltage drop). We had some issues with our equipment during the qualifying run and did not compete. When we were on the way to the competition, we had turned the bass gain on the headunit down. When we went to qualify it was about 10 levels lower than is should have been. Its a little disappointing that things didnt turn out the way we hoped, but overall I had a great first experience. None of us had prior experience in audio competitions. This was a great learning experience and I hope we can take a lot from it for the next competition. We are definitely going to look into sound deadening and retuning to hopefully cross over 150 dB. We will be venturing out to Indiana for Slamology in June! SolerTuned
Huge updates as of last month! The Mechanical Engineering department at Virginia Tech has officially adopted this program as an Undergraduate Research project! What does this mean? This means we have access to resources on campus such as SPL meters and acoustic modeling programs. In addition, it allows our students to participate in the project for college credits. In addition, 2Loud has teamed up with David Berger from DB Designs for an outrageous build. Last year we used equipment from my personal build. While it was good for the $200 budget we had, we still did not come home with any first place trophies. This years system will be off the hook! Not going to give up specifics, but I can tell you we wont be in Class 2 anymore. We are in the process of applying for funding from the engineering department. Once we have the set budget, we will begin the build. I want to say a big thank you to our sponsors this year: XS Power, Ampere Audio, Sky High Car Audio cable, and DB Designs. mcfalcon
Congrats buddy. Glad the program was adopted. Good luck with the build. Still learning but have started gathering.
tboorn
holy shit those are some SERIOUS sponsors. Sounds like a college dream of just about everybody on this forum. Its really awesome to see that you guys are going to be able to get funding and credit for the work your putting in. I know there are a lot of people here who know how scientific this all really can be, and like me, enjoy that aspect of it. SolerTuned
Updates! We are now moving into the designing phase! Unfortunately did no secure the funding we were hoping. The engineering department did however allow us to use the Acoustics Lab and purchased a TermLab Magnum for us to use. We'll be buying our battery bank soon from XS Power to give the system a little extra juice. Since my car is down, we'll be using the SQ Q4500.1 on our subs! The subs we're using are DC Audio Level 5 Team Editions lent by David Berger over at dB Designs. As soon as we recone the one that needs it and get the batteries, we can begin testing. For the first rounds of testing, we'll be editing our old box from last year to get a benchmark. We'll be swapping out the tiny 6" areos with 8". We'll start the baseline tune around 50hz, as we saw the best results with that last year. The team is gunning to have our first build ready for competition on April 9th in Rocky Mount NC.
