scooter99
Now lets get started with the build. I'm going to go in the order that it happened. Just like it happened. So hang on to your seats. Won't all get posted tonight but I'll see how far I can get tonight. I'm going to start with some enclosure design pics. fullsizeoutput_12 by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_12 by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_1e by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_15 by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_1a by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_19 by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_1c by Scott Carver, on Flickr fullsizeoutput_16 by Scott Carver, on Flickr And for those that want to know about the numbers, here you go. fullsizeoutput_10 by Scott Carver, on Flickr I also have a design for a 4th order, but I'll hold on to that. I'm going to stick with the 6th order for now, the numbers on the charts look better and seems like this would do much better musical, which is what I'm after. This is not a competition deal, it's a musical, daily driver, bass for an hour commute each way, demo at shows when I go deal. There may be a point in time where I switch to the 4th order just to say I built it and see what the differences are. But that won't be for a while. I'm very interested to see what it does with port changes and playing around with it like that. Ok enough of that, moving on. I got started with A LOT of wood cutting. I did do some videos of it all, but they're seriously raw. So I'll just stick to the pics. IMG_0561 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0562 by Scott Carver, on Flickr I'm pretty good with plans, I was in construction so I can read a set of blueprints, but when you have this many pieces, it's best to label everything. IMG_0563 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0564 by Scott Carver, on Flickr Lots of port pieces, hmmmm. Wonder why that is? IMG_0565 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0566 by Scott Carver, on Flickr This was my make shift work area. Made it so much easier to cut the sheets and have a work station as well. IMG_0589 by Scott Carver, on Flickr Plus I cut in a router table as well. scooter99
That router table sure comes in handy for things like this! Now you see why I had so many port pieces. IMG_0591 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0592 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0593 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0594 by Scott Carver, on Flickr This took some time!! I'll get back at it in the morning. Good night all. Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build

scooter99
So let's continue on to the actual enclosure building, which was also an adventure. Not because it was too much for me, but my saw I think wasn't as square as I thought it was. So I didn't have 100% true pieces. But I didn't notice that until I started putting it together. But it's a good saw, portable, and I quite frankly don't have the budget for the large shop saws and big fences etc. So, I do with what I have. Maybe if I decide to do it over again, or the 4th order, I'll go back to my tried and true skill method of the circular saw and a clamp fence. Here we go! IMG_0001 by Scott Carver, on Flickr No I don't know how you guys feel about your glues, I've never been one to really understand them and the different kinds, but I did a little research on this Titebond III. I usually use the Titebond II but this says it's a bit more water resistant than the others. With this being originally an exposed enclosure build, I didn't have any type of bed cover for the truck bed, I wanted to make sure I had some protection. I was also planning to bed line the whole thing. IMG_0002 by Scott Carver, on Flickr Every wall on this enclosure is double layered, with exception of the baffle and it's a triple layer. Every layer got glued heavily, and screwed about every 4-6" to hold it together. This actually comes back to bite me in the ass later on but it's just detail stuff. IMG_0003 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0004 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0005 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0006 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0007 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0008 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0009 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0010 by Scott Carver, on Flickr The Jasper Jig and this Ryobi plunge router might be the best investment I've ever made. Makes life so much easier. IMG_0011 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0621 by Scott Carver, on Flickr I started testing for bolt holes here, seeing where the counter sinking was at and how much meat I was going to have for the bolts and inserts. IMG_0623 by Scott Carver, on Flickr This is the test. Also looking at the closeness of the surround etc. IMG_0624 by Scott Carver, on Flickr As you can see, not much there. IMG_0625 by Scott Carver, on Flickr And in some cases, it actually pushed the plies out when I drilled the holes. I wasn't going to leave that there, in case any one was wondering. They all got sanded and cleaned up. I didn't want to take any chances. scooter99
All of the layers glued and screwed together. IMG_0012 by Scott Carver, on Flickr The top had to be done in two sections. The larger section is for the larger chamber and the smaller section obviously for the smaller chamber. Unfortunately they don't make 5' by 8' Pieces or this would've been one piece. LOL IMG_0013 by Scott Carver, on Flickr Sub baffle. IMG_0014 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0015 by Scott Carver, on Flickr Then I started putting it together. So if you notice, every wall's inner piece is smaller by 3/4" than the outer piece. This was for strength when finished. Kind of locking in place type of thought. IMG_0016 by Scott Carver, on Flickr The other thing is, this is not birch. This is $25 a sheet cabinet ply from Home Depot. Knowing I was going to have to use about 9 sheets for this, I was all about saving money. However, the draw back is the weight. Not as heavy as MDF, but not as light as birch. Somewhere in the middle. So flipping it and moving it was kind of a pain. I'm not sure what happened, if I miss measured, or what, but one inner wall is about 1/4" taller than the rest. IMG_0024 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0025 by Scott Carver, on Flickr So in order to fix that I had to get creative again. Adventures!! IMG_0678 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0680 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0682 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0683 by Scott Carver, on Flickr and boom, it worked! IMG_0684 by Scott Carver, on Flickr IMG_0685 by Scott Carver, on Flickr This is what I meant by things not squaring up. Really is a pain in the ass. I'll fix it all eventually, but for now it'll just be ugly. IMG_0686 by Scott Carver, on Flickr Tops aren't screwed down, that's why the edges are bowed a little bit. In case anyone noticed. scooter99
Here's where I wanted to take this to another level. I had originally thought about how I was going to do the inside, and I was going to just paint it or something simple. Problem is, that's not my style. So I got to thinking about what I could do, and actually I did this a while ago in the design stage because I had to think about air space loss etc. But here's where I change the looks of this enclosure a bit. Let's get creative. A long time ago, like 4 years ago, when I moved into my house we had to remodel a room in our house because we had a roof leak. Well when we did that we went back with a wood flooring. I happened to have a case of it left over. Take a look.
