Tuba HT Subwoofer Build

Recommended Posts

Isn't that like the reasoning behind line arrays too?

More speakers doing less work equals more efficient and less distortion?

+1 to what Krakin said. While being more efficient and having less distortion may not be the main design intent with line arrays, it certainly is a bonus they have.

Lol, I would be lying if said the idea had never crossed my mind. I've been meaning to build a Table Tuba (which is a slightly smaller version of the Tuba HT) and sticking it in my Jeep to see what its like. Just have find the time to do it.

While these big horn loaded subs sound good and are very power and cost efficient, they aren't very space efficient. For the space this thing takes up I could easily fit two 15"s in a ported box, and while they may not sound as good and would definitely cost a lot more, they would almost certainly get a lot louder on the same power.

(4) DR250's and (2) tuba 30's I bullt about 10 years ago. Sound great! The Tuba 30 would not be good in a home theater, but they are great for this outdoor setup.

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

Hey dude, I'm looking into building a Tuba HT for a friend, how much time do you think you have into this project? And how much wood did you use? I will probably go with the 24" version so it might be a bit different, but trying to get a ballpark idea on the total cost (a lot of which is wood).

What kind of wood are you going to use? I used 1/2" Baltic birch for mine which comes in 5' x 5' sheets and I think I used about 2.5 sheets.

I'm in the tractor right now but when I get in the house I can dig up my cut sheet for you. Is the one you are going to build 24" wide internally or externally?

Also planning on using Baltic, a place near me has 5x5 and 4x8 sheets so I'll have to take a look at your cutsheet to see if that would work better than 5x5. I'm planning on 24" external so I can fit it in my car, since I need to deliver it to my friend a few hours away.

Looks like you can get it out of 2 sheets 4' x 8' or 2.5 sheets 5' x 5'.
