i want to get a clamp meter to determine my alternators amp output. I really don't know what meters are worth buying, or which ones will work for what I need. Not looking to get a top of the line fluke, but want it to be reliable and fairly cheap. Any suggestions?

One that sees dc amperage.

Some nice cheap klines out there.

I run a meter looking at amperage full, live time , on one of the two all day.

I love knowing.

(With alt amperage output, a lot comes into play, just a heads up)

You use a fluke. Which is a good choice. Pricey but like you said it's good to know info. I also love knowing everything going on.

I use flukes where i work too. I'll be getting a new one this thursday. Lol for some reason my current one is "broke". So I'm going to make one a permanent fixture in my car too.

There's a guy on here selling a fluke dmm, clamp meter, and infrared thermometer for $250. I'd hop on that in a heartbeat if I didn't have other shit I need more. And you could probably work the price down...
