reedal Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 To run a 4k you're going to need at least one run of 1/0 or 2/0 (depending on the brand's amperage handling per foot). Fuse for the amps recommended fuse size (unless that size exceeds the wires current carrying capabilities). Whether you connect directly to the alternator or through the OEM battery doesn't matter. The alt is still the first power supply in the circuit and where the power will be drawn from until you've depleted what it can produce at that time. What Lanzar amp? What cap? What brand wire are you using? What are your grounding locations? You checked for shorts and breaks in wires, but did you check how tight the connections are? I understand that it's easier to buy amps/caps that are cheaper because I've been there. That's how I started out. I began with a pyramid amp, Pyle 4x6's, and a JL 12w1 I got for free. I've used Lanzar subs, and cheap ass wire off of eBay and Amazon. It's a easy cheap way to get a start. But if you're willing to listen to advice: have patience, save up your money you're about to drop on that Lanzar gear and the optima, and buy better quality equipment. The subs you have are a good choice. I love mine. But when it comes to powering them, an amplifier that does what it claims and isn't so inefficient and power hungry is the smarter choice. It costs money but it's easier on the alternator and amplifier when it's not working so hard and trying to squeeze everything it can out. Buy quality OFC 1/0 wire, use it for your big three, & power/grounds. Don't use a smaller wire for grounds. The reason quality amplifiers are priced higher than brands like Pyle, pyramid, Lanzar, boss, etc., is because they do what they claim, they're much more efficient, and it's worth it in the long run because the components inside are of better quality and last longer. RainStryke Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Yeah, you would also need something in the range of a 270A alternator to handle a true 4K amp.
Zackazp23 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Report Posted August 3, 2015 Oh my gain is just a hair past half way. I used my phone with a 50hz tone and the volume 3/4
Zackazp23 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Report Posted August 3, 2015 Ive used the 4k b4 with my 35f cap and it would shut the whole radio down. So thats why i went back to the the 1500w. all my stuff is power acoustik except the 4k is lanzar and the subs r soundqubed.
reedal Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 How do you know that 3/4 volume on your head unit isn't distorting? What did you use to measure it? Oscope? BoomZoom808 Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 These cars only have an 80 amp alt and you are running 4 ga on a inefficient amp... You are going to dim no matter how your wire it up with your current setup. If you are serious about fixing the dimming Get some 1/0 wire do the big 3 and do a run of 1/0 front to back I ran under the car and followed the brake lines, there is a channel there you can tuck the 1/0 in a zip tie it securely. There is a rubber grommet in the trunk on the passenger side you can come up through. Its behind the liner. You can add another agm battery in the trunk and that should help with dimming. 2010 Mazda 3s 2.5L Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS Knu OFC 1/0 SS Platinum AGM / XS Power XP750 Alpine PDX F-4 / Morel Maximo 5 + Coax 5 IA 10.1 / SSA XCON 12
Zackazp23 Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 Reedal i know theres no distortion bcuz ive had systems b4 none capable of so much power but enough to bump well. I am aware of how to set gains and lpf. Also ive got a dmm so that helps.
