savage24x Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 Today, I'm working on my buddy's Pontiac Vibe. Headunit was an easy install. Speakers were easy install. Speedwire is ready to go, but now I'm curious as to where I should go with the electrical system. I got him 2 Sundown E-12 D2's (should've done D4's, but whatever), an AudioPipe APMI-1500 (964w rms at 2-Ohm (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_96522_Audiopipe-APMI-1500.html )) and a Rockford Fosgate Punch 401s (200w RMS per channel at 2-Ohm, will be running 75w rms to pair of component speakers). So, I need about 1050 rms. 450 per sub, 75 per speaker. All at 2-Ohm. The car is a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. It has continuous 56A on the alt, 80A MAX. I want to get the KnuKonceptz true 4-gauge wire with 120A fuse, but is 120 running to the amps going to kill the alt? It's obviously going to kill the battery pretty fast. Don't really have unlimited money, do we need an alt upgrade, or can we get away with a batt upgrade?
Carnines Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 As long as you don't experience any headlight dimming you will probably be fine. You could get a volt meter to see how low you drop before anything. I wouldn't worry that much considering how low the power you are using.
savage24x Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 Is he going to have to charge his battery every night, depending on how long he'll be playing the system? I feel like it's just going to drain the battery based on the maximum output of alt at 80A and the system pulling 120/125 at max, plus whatever the car needs. If it starts dimming then I'll do big three before anything else.
Carnines Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 As long as he doesn't play it idle for a couple hours it shouldn't do any harm.
Moreno93 Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 At the very least do a good battery up front. Check oem like alternatora that fit stock location with higher amp output just to see if its worth it

Check oem like alternatora that fit stock location with higher amp output just to see if its worth it Hopefully I can get him to buy a Duracell AGM at the minimum. Stock alternators with higher amps go up to 90A at $100. Powerusa makes a 160A alt at $200, but I've read some bad reviews.
Moreno93 Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 $100 for 10a more not worth IMO i'd start with front battery, & then see how things go, if there fine leave it as it if not alt upgrade, or if you you could push for alt upgrade & not battery upgrade
savage24x Posted August 5, 2015 Author Report Posted August 5, 2015 Thanks for the replies. Don't want to make another topic, but I have a distro block from 4 gauge to 4 runs of 8 gauge. Do I run 3 runs of 8 to the single 4 gauge input on the audiopipe and one run of 8 to the 401s?
reedal Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 No. That's not going to be a good connection. 4 gauge inputs need 4gauge wire.
