Fuse is extremely important. A girl I went out with years ago made that mistake and caught her car on fire because of it.

You need a fuse holder for sure. I don't know what equipment you are using. To calculate the size of fuse you need, you add up the AMP ratings of the fuses on your amp or amps and go from there... So if you are just running a single amp that uses 2 30A fuses, you need to fuse for 60A. Those wires need to be covered, at the very least with some electrical tape... For now, i'd recommend disconnecting that wire from the battery and cover all of the exposed wire/metal with electrical tape until you can properly fuse it.

Fuses are important because they tell you when something is wrong, rather than finding out the hard way with a burnt up engine bay.

You need to be less worried about how much power you're getting and more concerned with starting a fire.
