Wasteland_Audio Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 So i just installed 2 sets of kicker components, fronts are cs series 6.5" and rears are ks series 5.25". When i hooked them up to the amp the crossovers for the rears started to light up at higher volume. I turned the gain down until they stopped but can someone explain to me what that was? it doesn't say anything about it in the manual and they were super bright, i'm new when it comes to mids and highs so idk whats going on with these.
SkarredSierra Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 You turned the gain down? Was it properly set? Sounds like you had the gain maxed out and was overheating your crossover internals.
Skullz Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 Might be the tweeter protection circuit using a bulb to protect the tweeter from being overpowered and blowing. I have never used kicker before so it is just a guess without knowing anything about how they build the crossovers. EDIT: After seeing the video on sonicelectronix site it looks like they are using a pair of bulbs. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_76198_Kicker-41KSS54-KSS54.html 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Rich Schenk Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 Get a dd-1 and reset it. Sounds like gain was set to high. Wasteland_Audio Posted October 21, 2015 Author Report Posted October 21, 2015 yea i did a little research myself and found the same thing, for some reason the gains were maxed out when the amp was shipped to me so that's why i had to turn them down right off the bat. the crossovers have resister bulbs in them to protect the tweeters, i turned my head unit to my max listening volume then turned the gain up til they started to flash, then turned the gain down a little bit until they didn't light up anymore, that'll have to do until i can get my hands on a dd-1
Skullz Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 The lighting is normal to protect the tweeters from being over powered and blowing, and i'm sure you'll see them light up even after you use a DD1 on the amp. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Wasteland_Audio Posted October 21, 2015 Author Report Posted October 21, 2015 but the lights aren't like a fuse or anything that'll blow are they?
