Battery Bubbling

Recommended Posts

So I just pulled my interstate mt7-34r (supposedly the best battery they make) out of my camry. I noticed the sides were a little bloated/bubbled out. The battery still sits at 12.8v, even after being taken out of the car for 2 weeks. I've read this can happen from overcharging. I never charged this battery with a charger, only off the alt when the car was running. Alt didn't charge exceptionally high, usually around 13.7-14.4 depending on if it was warm/cold or battery charge. Overall system output was about 2k rms on a 180 amp singer alt. Any ideas why this happened?

I have seen batteries bulge but mainly because they froze in winter. I am talking about cheap Walmart style batteries.

Not 100% if age plays a role.
