MOHpro Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 I am new to ported enclosures and still learning about them. Recently I used the Torres calculator to calculate the info I need to build a ported enclosure. I noticed one box on the right hand side column called "physical port length". In reference to an "L" slot port, is the physical port length simply the combined length of the 2 pieces of wood used to form the "L" ? My plans call for the first piece of the "L", the piece that connects to the front panel of the enclosure, to be 12.5" and the second piece of the "L" which connects to that piece at the top to form the "L" to be 5.5" for a total of 18" combined length for the 2 piece. Im using 3/4" MDF, would I add 1.5" to the 18 to account for the thickness of the front panel and thickness of the first piece of the "L" that the second piece connects to for a total of 19.5" ? Or would it be 18" plus the 3/4" thickness of the second piece for a total of 18.75"? Or would the physical port length simply be 18", the total combined length of the 2 pieces of wood used to form the "L". Sorry this is lengthy, only way I know how to ask. Thank You.

MotorCityFats13 Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 good to know torres does not include the baffle as part of the port length... I would have subtracted another .75 - 1.5" in there and tunned wrong... and torres does the measurment off of the non common wall... hmm cool
MOHpro Posted January 10, 2016 Author Report Posted January 10, 2016 Joe, maybe you can answer one more question for me. With a diagram would be awesome! Torres is showing physical port length of 18.75" then there is another box titled "length" , under the port dimensions section there is a 22 in this box. How is the physical port length different than the actual or total port length , and how is the actual or total port length measured / calculated? The actual port length is 3.25" more than the physical port length. Thanks again.

MOHpro Posted January 10, 2016 Author Report Posted January 10, 2016 In this case, torres is not accurate in this matter. In my case, 21.25" is the port length of the yellow line in the diagram, but it says 23 in torres so it is off by 3/4". The side panel is 15" deep, the second piece of wood for the L port is 5.5", and the thickness of the piece of wood for the first part of the port is 0.75", so those 3 numbers added equal 21.25, not 22....

Joe X Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 Glad you got it. Now since the calculator have issues calculating slot port displacement you may still be a little off, nothing really important in most cases but the issue is there.
